How to make your water go further on-farm

IN the midst of a prolonged drought across NSW, the preservation of water is more important than ever.

Many farms are now turning to larger water tanks instead of traditional dam-based water storage, where water can be lost through seepage and evaporation.

Rhino water tanks, manufactured by world-renowned water and energy company Kingspan, are a great solution for farm water storage. Large sheds, which are becoming increasingly appealing for various farming practices, require bigger rainwater tanks to harvest maximum water from their roofs. Rhino tanks offer capacities of up to 365,000 litres.

The tanks are built to last with genuine Australian BlueScope steel and come with an Infinity tank liner to ensure stored water stays fresh, taste-free and protected from contaminants.

An added benefit for graziers purchasing a Rhino water tank is the ability to claim the Emergency Water Infrastructure Rebate Scheme, which allows drought-affected livestock farmers to claim a rebate of 25% (for a maximum of $25,000 per farm) for upgrading their water infrastructure.

To ensure complete quality control, all tanks are installed on-site by a team of trained specialists, and are backed by a 20-year conditional warranty.

Reliable wastewater treatment keeping farms operating smoothly

Ensuring we make the most of our water is a consideration we all ponder, whether it be for the house and garden or our stock. In addition to enhancing water storage on-farm, managing wastewater is an important piece to the puzzle for those without access to mains drainage.

Late last year Kingspan became the first domestic wastewater treatment plant manufacturer in Australia to receive product certification under the latest Australian Standard for its BioFicient Series 1 Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The BioFicient treatment plant provides houses with up to 10 people with a sustainable domestic water option. The plant is manufactured from high quality fibre reinforced plastic and uses the latest treatment technology to deliver a high quality of water discharge.

The global company’s wastewater treatment division has been manufacturing treatment systems for over 60 years and recently invested in the Australian business with wastewater treatment products that are designed specifically for Australia’s dry climate.

Gaining the latest Australian Standard certification was a lengthy, rigorous process, but an important one for the business and the industry as a whole, says Gerry Quinn, Kingspan Water & Energy sales manager.

“The wastewater plant accreditation process in Australia is now one of the most stringent on the planet and is designed with the environment in mind, by ensuring the standard of effluent discharged is consistently high.

“Kingspan Water & Energy is excited to be the first to market with the latest certification and we applaud the government for investing in the industry and producing an innovative, forward-thinking, first-class certification process,” says Gerry.
